Abstract

This text in French tries to describe what is homogenization and what is not homogenization, but discusses also a few related issues. Of course, homogenization is understood in the general sense that the author had decribed in his Peccot lectures at Collège de France in Paris, in the beginning of 1977, and corresponds to the notion of H-convergence that he had developed with François Murat in the early 1970s, extending the work of Sergio Spagnolo on G-convergence from the late 1960s; for example, it uses no periodicity assumption like in the work where Ivo Babu\v{s}ka first used the word homogenization, or in the earlier pioneering work of Evariste Sanchez-Palencia.
