On the Definition of C*-algebras

Abstract

It is shown that conditions $∥ x y ∥ \leq ∥ x ∥∥ y ∥$ and $∥ x^{*} ∥ = ∥ x ∥$ follow from the other axioms for $C^{*}$ -algebras.
