With a well received booth, EMS Press attracted a lot of attention during the 9th European Congress of Mathematics in Sevilla.
The 9th European Congress of Mathematics in Sevilla was an outstanding experience: a week of high scientific content that attracted almost 1400 researchers and the most important mathematics publishers. We exhibited at booth #13-15, located right next to the main entrance, alongside the European Mathematical Society (EMS) and zbMath Open, the world's most comprehensive and longest-running abstracting and reviewing service in mathematics. Throughout the event we showcased our publications and engaged with the EMS community, in particular highlighting our commitment to Open Access. Our booth attracted many customers and curious visitors, providing a platform for discussions on current projects and future collaborations.
On Wednesday afternoon, EMS Press Managing Director, Dr. André Gaul, participated in the panel discussion New Scenarios in Open Science, together with Miguel Benítez (Basque Center for Applied Mathematics), Ignasi Labastida i Juan (Universidad de Barcelona) and Pilar Rico (FECYT). The panel, organized by the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica, focused on the evolving landscape of open science and its impact on mathematical research. Dr. Gaul emphasized: «Supporting Open Access in an equitable and sustainable way requires close collaboration between publishers, researchers, funders, and institutions. At EMS Press, we are committed to fostering open science principles, keeping the community at the center of all our efforts». The discussion covered current regulatory, research and editorial aspects of Open Access and highlighted the challenges in this rapidly changing field.
On Friday, EMS Press Editorial Director, Dr. Apostolos Damialis, took part in the second session of the symposium Mathematical Information in the Digital Age of Science, a recurring discussion organized by zbMATH Open at the ECM and chaired by Fabian Müller (FIZ Karlsruhe), Olaf Teschke (FIZ Karlsruhe) and Evelyne Miot (CNRS), who is also a member of the EMS Committee on Publications and Electronic Dissemination. The session addressed the challenges and advances in mathematics publishing, indexing and data management. Dr. Damialis presented his view of the current situation in mathematics publishing, in particular from an editorial point of view. He discussed various aspects, including submission and peer review processes, the potential use of artificial intelligence for pre-publication and the differences between Open Access models.
