Abstract

In this chapter are recounted numerous stimulating mathematical and inspiring moments from before 1970, in France where the author was settled but also in the US where he was returning regularly, continuing through the next decade. This is a period in which he was learning about foliations, assorted dynamics, and quasiconformality, up to the beginning of the focus on the amazing rigidity of the period doubling cascade in one-dimensional unimodal dynamics.
