Symplectic Topology and Algebraic Families

Abstract

In this paper we outline a recent direction of research interrelating symplectic geometry and algebraic geometry. We show how methods and ideas from symplectic geometry can be used to study classical algebro-geometric problems on hyperplane sections and degenerations of algebraic varieties.
