On ideals with submaximal analytic spread

Abstract

We construct examples of ideals $I$ in a local ring $R$ of dimension $d$ with the property that $I$ has analytic spread $a\le d-1$ and the polynomial giving the lengths of ${\Gamma }_{\mathfrak{m}}(R/I^n)$, for $n$ large, has degree $t\le a-1$.
