EMS Press, the publishing house of the European Mathematical Society, announced in June its Subscribe To Open (S2O) programme – initially for 10 journals. Since then, more publishers have decided to adopt the sustainable model for Open Access publishing for their journals without any author fees.
The growing interest in the model from libraries, researchers and publishers lead to a (virtual) panel discussion with a diverse set of publishers during the 2020 Open Access Week. The participants André Gaul (CEO of EMS Press), Charlotte Van Rooyen (EDP Sciences), Irene van Rossum (Amsterdam University Press) and Christina Lembrecht (De Gruyter) introduce the model and explain the motivations for adopting S2O. Besides providing insights into the benefits and challenges of the model, several questions from the audience are discussed.
